Obituary

Margaret Richeson Hicks passed away peacefully at home, on May 1, 2021, after a brief illness. She was born in Amherst, Virginia on June 14, 1939, to the late Andrew Jackson Richeson and the late Carlena Burton Richeson. Margaret graduated from Dunbar High School, in Lynchburg, VA, in 1957. On May 9, 1959, Margaret married her late husband Millard Fillmore Hicks in Lynchburg, Virginia. Shortly after their marriage, Margaret and Fillmore moved to Washington, DC. They had three children, Derrick, Keith & Robin. Margaret was a stay-at-home mom for many years, actively serving in her children’s schools and extra-curricular activities, often leading the Parent Teacher Association. She started her working career in 1979, with Control Data, before transitioning to Raytheon where she worked as a Production Manager, until retiring in 2004. Margaret joined Peace Baptist Church in Washington DC, on July 18, 1999 and was an active member, serving on the Usher Ministry for seventeen years, the Intercessory Prayer Ministry, and serving as a worship leader for the Wednesday Noonday Bible Study. Margaret was also a member of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association. At the request of her pastor, Margaret started a weekly prayer call during the pandemic. The prayer call was officially renamed in her honor. Margaret’s passions were her faith, family, gardening, yoga, traveling, collecting angels, and playing word games on her iPad. Margaret’s signature greetings were, “Hi Baby” and “Bless your heart”. Margaret leaves us warm memories of her caring spirit, loving smile, and a legacy of love. Margaret is survived by her three children, three siblings, Andrew, Shirley and Roy, a daughter in-law Karen, son in-law Michael, and three grandchildren Cameron, Kendyll and Matthew, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.
