She was the youngest of nine children. Ann was affectionately called “Snookie” by family and friends. At a young age, she became a member of Grafton Baptist Church. When she moved to Maryland she became a member of Peace Baptist Church in Washington, DC. She was a graduate of Saint Clare Walker High School in Middlesex County, VA. After high school, she received her bachelor’s degree in education from Nor- folk State University and went on to earn her master’s degree in education from Trinity University.

After her first retirement, she continued to teach at Nanny Helen Burroughs Elementary School for an additional 12 years.

She was united in holy matrimony to James Leggett for more than 30 years. From this union, their only child was born — Kimberly Nicole Leggett. She was blessed with her grandson Justin Christopher Leggett, whom she loved very much.

After retiring, Mrs. Leggett took up line dancing, water aerobics and an aquatic spin class. She enjoyed traveling with her closest friend to different places around the world. Ann was an active member of the nurse’s unit at Peace Baptist Church.
